Camera Ready Art
Multi-colored artwork sent in a color laser or inkjet form is not Camera Ready Art. Rather, Camera Ready means the artwork is high contrast, black and white line art that requires no additional touch up. In this case the art has no colors or halftones, but rather precisely defined smooth lines. For us it is better to receive your artwork created in a graphics drawing applications such as Adobe Illustrator. If you don’t have someone on staff in a graphics or marketing department, don’t worry Action Apparel can still help create your logo. Ideally the resolution of the art file should be between 300 dpi and 600 dpi. Any resolution lower than 300 dpi will most likely not work because of its poor quality. One can gain a better understanding of this if they zoom in close and find jagged lines or fuzziness. Examples of art files that will not work include web images as displayed in clip art, websites, photo-copies, business cards or the like. These are usually very low-resolution images less than 100 dpi. Art changes will need to be applied to these web images in order to turn them into a high-resolution image for printing purposes. This is done by re-tracing the initial image into a high-resolution image. In the industry, high-resolution images are referred to as Vector Art, whereas non-vector art is referred to as pixel-based, usually done in Adobe Photoshop instead of Adobe Illustrator, Creative Suite, or Corel Draw. Usually pixel-based artwork is jagged when enlarged. If this is the case, your pixel-based art will not be acceptable, therefore charges for re-tracing the artwork will be applied under these circumstances.
Hand-drawn Artwork
Please send all hand-drawn art or stencils in solid black ink. Any colors other than black will not work. If colors need to be added to the image please clearly indicate to your sales representative which PMS colors you would like to add to the image. If the design is drawn in pencil and cannot be re-produced the image will then be considered a half-tone design which will require an extra screen & film charge.
Sending your Electronic Artwork to Action Apparel
Electronic Camera Ready Art must be sent in Vector format – meaning all graphics are shown with lines, outlines, and fills. Vector art is created in applications such as Adobe Illustrator, Corel Draw, or Creative Suite. When saving the art in these programs the .EPS file (encapsulated post script) will work best as it is most compatible with other programs. Art saved as .EPS or .AI does not necessarily mean it is vector art. Art files sent in .PDF format will also work as long as the image is vectorized.
